Stepping off the pavement feels like sealing yourself inside a humidor. The humidity of the city is replaced by the scent of woodsmoke and old leather, while the noise simply stops. Inside, the architecture absorbs sound rather than reflecting it. Reclaimed oak beams hold up the ceiling, and the floors are paved with handmade terracotta tiles that cool the air. It functions less like a hotel and more like the private residence of a collector who values patina over polish. The Shibui Spa was reconstructed from a 250-year-old Japanese farmhouse. It is defiantly analogue.
